Artifex Sui: Gregorian and Polyphonic Choir
Founded in 2018 by pianist and soprano Aremy Sanchez, Artifex Sui is a chamber choir made up of professional singers, with a specialty in Gregorian chant and polyphonic choral music. The ensemble is known for its impeccable balance, timing and tuning – not to mention its gorgeous sound.
The Celaya-based choir will make its San Miguel debut in a special Easter concert at 12 noon, Sunday, April 5, at the Templo de la Tercera Orden, located at San Francisco 14, in Centro.
The program will open with traditional Gregorian chant, followed by polyphonic choral works by Tomás Luis de Victoria (c. 1548–1611); Thomas Tallis (c. 1505–1585); Antonio Lotti (c. 1667–1740); Maurice Duruflé (1902–1986); Franz Xaver Biebl (1906–2001), and contemporary composer Orlando Arreguín Rosales.
The Biebl composition, his 1964 motet Ave Maria, has never before been performed in San Miguel, despite its worldwide popularity as one of the standards of the modern chorale repertoire.
All seats are reserved, and all are on the ground floor. Ticket prices are 500 MX for VIP seating, 350 MX for front section seats, 250 MX for the middle section, and 150 MX for rear section Parterre seats.
From 10am to 12 noon on April 5, the Tercera Orden temple will be open free to the public for a two-hour silent vigil for peace.
